DPF SYSTEM

DPF is made of ceramic extruded material and can filter soot from the exhaust in excess of 97%.
It has many parallel channels which are plugged at alternate ends.
Diesel exhaust flows through the porous substrate walls & physically filters the soot.
Soot accumulation in DPF leads back pressure and hence deposited soot has to be oxidized intermittently.
Oxidation of soot in DPF is called as regeneration.

DPF ACCUMULATION

During regeneration soot and organic materials accumulated in the DPF are oxidized.

The unburnt inorganic materials that remains inside the DPF as ceramic ash.

Over a period of time and in different operating conditions this ash amount accumulates and occupies a considerable volume in the DPF there by exerts a back pressure on the engine.

This back pressure has a detrimental effect on the efficient functioning of the engine. Hence it is imperative that the clogged DPF has to be replaced or cleaned by external methods.
